Jammu and Kashmir, commonly known as Kashmir, is situated in the heart of South-Central Asia and shares its borders with Afghanistan, China, India and Pakistan. A small strip of Wakhan separates 13.5 million (current estimate), including, 0.05 million displaced within Kashmir; 2 million refugees in Pakistan; 0.05 million refugees in India; and 0.5 million expatriates in other parts of the world.
Due to the continuing war like situation, there is a gradual decline in the Kashmiri peoples economic conditions, particularly in the far-flung areas whose population is suffering the most. They cannot afford to meet most of their needs, including education. Even primary education for their children is out of reach.
